Michael Strong Black and White Blog Hop journaling page

Michael Strong Black and White Blog Hop journaling page

Welcome to the Michael Strong Black and White Blog Hop!

I hope you have arrived here from Lola Radnoti's blog: http://raevon59.wordpress.com/

My project is a double spread journaling page, in a regular sized notebook (A5).

For the background, I used a collage of randomly torn pages from a Mythology book which I saved from being thrown away – I upcycled it for a good purpose.

I also used a photo from the same book, showing a figure which seems to say "It'll be OK", very confidently.

I used Mike's Whimsical Owl stamp, heat embossed with an extra sparkly and shiny black EP, hand cut with scissors.

Here's a link to Michael Strong’s catalogue, where you can see all the wonderful stamps (and more) Mike has:
http://www.strongstamps.com/catalog-rubber-stamps-supplies/index.htm

The Washi Tape at the bottom of the page is actually a rather wide fabric tape.
It's directing the way to a one-way-ticket destination, leading to a positive and optimistic ending of the road, which goes along with the Sentiment.
The hand-written Sentiment is a very optimistic one.

The next blog you should hop to is Rosie Guiher's blog:
http://gramig05-playtime.blogspot.nl/

Please notice: if leave a comment in Mike’s blog, you may be lucky and win some blog candy stamps.

I missed blogging, and I'm glad to be back.

Between Fields And Streets - Love Bird - Israel's Independence Day 2014 - Former Outdoor Exhibition

Last year, on Israel's 66th Independence Day, the annual outdoor exhibition has been displayed at Ramat HaSharon's outdoor gallery.
Its subject was Between Fields And Streets and my work which participated in it was called Love Bird.
It's a paper piecing work, and the background was painted with acrylic paint.

Tomorrow is Israel's 67th Independence Day, therefore a new outdoor exhibition will be displayed.
Its opening has been delayed, yet I'll show you my new Mixed Media work which will be displayed there… stay tuned!

Happy Independence Day!

Winter Views From Israel - Beit Jimal Monastery

These photos were taken on a beautiful sunny day at Beit Jimal Monastery.
Here's the main building, with exotic plants in front of it.

And an ancient fortress, with a unique light and shadows scene.

An orange tree loaded with juicy fruits.

An almond tree, blooming at this exact date each year, with a bumble bee looking for the flower's nectar.

Israeli Pioneers

This work was created for the next outdoor exhibition in Ramat Hasharon.
There's an outdoor gallery in Ramat Hasharon, with a new exhibition every couple of months.
A few dozen artists from Ramat Hasharon will participate in this outdoor exhibition. The subject is Following The Pioneers and my work is called Israeli Pioneers (or, in Hebrew, אנו באנו ארצה).

It's a mixed media collage on canvas.
I created this collage out of recycled geographic maps of Israel, all torn to pieces by hand.
I re-assembled the torn pieces into an imaginary map of my country.
The people representing the Israeli Pioneers were printed on a background made of the map, then cut using scissors and glued 3D for extra dimension.

In the middle of the work there's an urban center, which includes Ramat Hasharon itself.
As an homage to my 2 sons who are IDF soldiers, I included their military bases locations (which are confidential, of course).

The exhibition's opening will take place on Israel's Independence Day, May 10th 2011.

Full Moon And Sunny Day

For Those of you who are wondering about the weather in Israel...
Even in the winter when it's cold and it's supposed to rain, there's never enough water and the sky is usually clear.
Here's the view from our top floor, facing the Mediterranean sea:
And here's a nocturnal photo taken by my youngest son, on a night of full moon:

Tim Holtz Collage Tags

I made these Tim Holtz Collage tags for a swap which took place at the commune "Follow Your Art" (in Israel).
I entered the swap twice, therefore I made 8 tags.

I started with a cream CS, randomly stamping it with several TH stamps in various ink colors to create a collage background paper.

I cut the CS into eight pieces, all equal in size and shape but looking very different from each other.
On each tag there's one TH stamp, stamped separately on cream or white CS and carefully cut with TH scissors.
I covered each shape of a man, car, clock and vintage man-on-bicycle (the last one was taken from a magazine) with Diamond Glaze to give it a shiny glazing.
I crumpled the shapes in various directions in order to get the creases which look like cracked glass.

I re-used Coca Cola bottle caps, flattened with a hammer (it was rather noisy but worth the effort) as embellishments.
I punched circles out of the same collage background paper I made, covered them with Diamond Glaze to give them a shiny glazing and adhered them to the bottle caps.

I glued them to the tags using a 3D foam tape for extra dimension.
I chopped the tags' corners with TH scissors, punched holes with the Crop-A-Dile and added colorful fibers from my stash.

I added thin kraft recycled chipboard at the back of each tag to make it sturdier.

On each tag's back side I added a stamped TH sentence, and then added my personal details for the swap.
And here are all my eight tags:

We don't celebrate Christmas in Israel.
Actually, until yesterday the weather here was so warm and sunny (even in December!) and now it's getting rainy so we're wearing more than a T-shirt…
All of you who have snow piling up your doorway - don't be jealous.
At least you have enough water in your country, and you can enjoy the lovely sight of snow, so white and elegant (unless you're stuck in traffic… lol)
I made quite a few Christmas cards for family members and friends who celebrate it.
You can see several of them in my former posts, and I promise to show a few new ones in the following posts.

This is my Christmas Card #7, with a large Christmas snowy tree and a special motif of interlacing ribbon.
Ingredients:
This card has a white CS as its basis.
The next layer is a green canvas textured CS, its edges distressed for a Shabby Chic look.
Then there's a shiny gold paper, and a piece of patterned paper (from my stash) in shades of gold and green.
There are 2 main motifs on this card - the snowy tree and the interlacing ribbon piece.

For the interlacing ribbon piece I used black canvas textured CS.
Both its edges were punched with EK Success Binding Edge Edger Punch.
Then I used a narrow green satin ribbon, interlacing it from one side to the other all the way down, and simply tying its ends.

For the snowy tree I used Michael Strong's Cloisonné Christmas Tree stamp (large).
I stamped it on black canvas textured CS, then I heat embossed it with white EP, cut it with nail scissors and glued it 3D for extra dimension.
I also added clear, green and red blings, to add some Christmas glam.
Take a closer look at the side view of the card, to see how attaching these 2 motifs with 3D foam tape creates nice shadows on the card's background.
(You can enlarge each photo by clicking on it)
Now hop over to your next stop, Jamie's blog at Glitter, Stamps, and Paper, Oh My
I hope you'll find it inspiring. Merry Christmas!

A note to my English readers:
This post is about the Good Deeds Day and about signing for Organ Donations (for transplantation) in Israel, therefore it's in Hebrew.
Have a great day :-)

Winter ATC

I made this ATC for a Winter ATC swap in the communa Follow Your Art (a communa for mail art and altered art).
The Israeli winter is quite sunny and not rainy enough.
It is represented by the newspaper's weather forecast, the bright yellow vellum paper at the top and the yellow sun eyelet attaching them to each other.
As a contrast, there's my wish for a "real winter" with snow piling up (in my dreams...)
Now there's a heatwave and it already feels like summer.
I have a few different ATCs to swap. If you're interested, please let me know.
