Michael Strong Black and White Blog Hop journaling page

Michael Strong Black and White Blog Hop journaling page

Welcome to the Michael Strong Black and White Blog Hop!

I hope you have arrived here from Lola Radnoti's blog: http://raevon59.wordpress.com/

My project is a double spread journaling page, in a regular sized notebook (A5).

For the background, I used a collage of randomly torn pages from a Mythology book which I saved from being thrown away – I upcycled it for a good purpose.

I also used a photo from the same book, showing a figure which seems to say "It'll be OK", very confidently.

I used Mike's Whimsical Owl stamp, heat embossed with an extra sparkly and shiny black EP, hand cut with scissors.

Here's a link to Michael Strong’s catalogue, where you can see all the wonderful stamps (and more) Mike has:
http://www.strongstamps.com/catalog-rubber-stamps-supplies/index.htm

The Washi Tape at the bottom of the page is actually a rather wide fabric tape.
It's directing the way to a one-way-ticket destination, leading to a positive and optimistic ending of the road, which goes along with the Sentiment.
The hand-written Sentiment is a very optimistic one.

The next blog you should hop to is Rosie Guiher's blog:
http://gramig05-playtime.blogspot.nl/

Please notice: if leave a comment in Mike’s blog, you may be lucky and win some blog candy stamps.

I missed blogging, and I'm glad to be back.

Time Small Chunky Book

Here's a small chunky book I made with friends a while ago.

The theme was TIME and my page showed how Time Flies.

I made 8 similar (but not identical) pages. . Each page is 10x10 cms (about 4x4 inches).I think this small chunky book turned out pretty cool.

The front side of the page I recycled advertisements papers and my son's notebooks front covers (after the school year was over).

I cut out all the motifs using scissors (I didn't have the Cuttlebug at that time), and stamped at the corners.
I distressed the page's edges using Ranger's Distress ink (Vintage Photo).
The watch was stamped on cream CS and partially covered with a thick transparent orange circle.

These circles were punched out using EK Success circle punch.

Both circles were connected (but not glued to each other) by a bead chain, which was inserted through the page so the circles are hanging on it.

The back side of the page I cut all the measurement tools and the watch parts using scissors, and glued the motifs 3D for extra dimension.

I stamped Tim's sentiment on a tag which was attached onto the same bead chain, inserted through the page on its back side, and distressed its edges using Ranger's Distress ink (Vintage Photo).

I added my personal details on the back side of the tag.

Show Time DECO

Here's another new deco I created.
Its theme is Show Time and anything related to theatre, cinema etc. will fit in.
There are 6 empty pages in the deco and its size is 15x11.5 cms, small enough to be sent in an envelope.
Six artists are going to work in it, one page per each, and I'm sure it will look fabulous when all the pages are done.
I'm going to make a few more new DECOs in different subjects soon, so if you're interested in working in this deco or in any of the other ones, please let me know.

For this DECO's front cover I used:
A recycled photo from an advertisement
A piece of black CS
The text Show Time, created using TH Vintage Market letters, cut out of white CS and covered with Glossy Accents for glazing.

For this DECO's back cover I used:
Silver CS
Textured red paper
A large Flourish stamp by IO
My personal details (covered with a piece of CS) were printed on the back cover, to make sure everybody knows where the deco should be returned to.

Through The Window DECO

Here's another new deco I created.
Its theme is Through The Window so let your imagination sweep you away, to whatever inspires you when you look inside or outside through the window.

A piece of white lace, which looks like a curtain
The text Through The Window, printed
A large Flourish stamp by IO

For this DECO's back cover I used:
A large Flourish stamp by IO
An arrow, freely cut with TH scissors from the advertisement's paper
My personal details (covered with a piece of CS) were printed on the back cover, to make sure everybody knows where the deco should be returned to.

All You Need Is Love…

I'm Card Captain of the enjoyMichaelStrongstamps Yahoo Group for this week, so for 5 days I'll be showing you several works using Michael Strong's stamps.
I hope you'll find them inspiring.
Today's card #1 is a Valentine's Day card in non traditional colors (no red, no pink).

Ingredients:
Cream CS for the card's basis
Dark blue vellum paper for the background
Recycled cream mulberry paper with gentle embroidery on it
Brown CS
Michael Strong's Cloisonné Heart Stamp (large)
Michael Strong's Punch & Spell Alphabet Stamp Set
Gold EP
ProMarkers
Oval Large Nesting Paper Punch 1.5 x 0.75 inch by EK Success
Binding Edge Edger Punch by EK Success
Bright blue blings in various sizes
Narrow yellow satin ribbon.

The heart
I stamped Michael Strong's Cloisonné Heart on white CS, heat embossed it with gold EP and cut it out using TH scissors.
Then I colored it with ProMarkers. I used Shale, Gold, Royal Blue and Cocoa.
The heart was glued 3D with foam tape for extra dimension.

The word LOVE
I stamped the letters L O V E from Michael Strong's Punch & Spell Alphabet Stamp Set on white CS, heat embossed them with gold EP and then punched each letter out using the Oval Large Nesting Paper Punch 1.5 x 0.75 inch by EK Success.
Then I colored the letters with ProMarkers. I used Gold, Royal Blue and Cocoa.
Each letter was separately glued 3D with foam tape for extra dimension.

The interlacing ribbon piece
I used a dark brown CS, both its edges punched using EK Success Binding Edge Edger Punch
Then I used a narrow yellow satin ribbon, interlacing it from one side to the other all the way down, and simply tying it at the lower end.
The interlacing ribbon piece was separately glued 3D with foam tape for extra dimension.
I also added a few bright blue blings in various sizes for some glam.
Take a closer look at the card from its lower side, to see how attaching these 3 motifs - the heart, the letters L O V E and the interlacing ribbon piece - gives it an extra 3D look.
(You can enlarge each photo by clicking on it)
I hope you all had a Happy Valentine's Day!

NOSTALGIA Deco

Here's a new deco I made, the theme is Nostalgia and anything related goes well with it.
There are 6 empty pages in the deco and its size is 14x10 cms, small enough to be sent in a regular envelope.
Six artists are going to work in it, one page per each, and I'm sure it will look adorable when all the pages are done.
I'm going to make a few more new decos in different subjects soon, so if you're interested in working in any of them, please let me know.

For this deco's front cover I used:
A recycled photo from an advertisement
A velvet and satin checkered ribbon in shades of brown
A stamp saying "Home is where your story begins" by IO
Tim Holtz Vintage Market letters, stamped with a vintage script stamp (in Saddle Brown Stazon ink) and covered with Glossy Accents in Sepia colour for the antique looking glazing.
For this deco's back cover I used:
A large Flourish stamp by IO (in black Stazon ink)
A piece of the advertisement's paper
My personal details (covered with a piece of brown CS) were printed on the back cover, to make sure everybody knows where it should be returned to.

Tim Holtz Collage Tags

I made these Tim Holtz Collage tags for a swap which took place at the commune "Follow Your Art" (in Israel).
I entered the swap twice, therefore I made 8 tags.

I started with a cream CS, randomly stamping it with several TH stamps in various ink colors to create a collage background paper.

I cut the CS into eight pieces, all equal in size and shape but looking very different from each other.
On each tag there's one TH stamp, stamped separately on cream or white CS and carefully cut with TH scissors.
I covered each shape of a man, car, clock and vintage man-on-bicycle (the last one was taken from a magazine) with Diamond Glaze to give it a shiny glazing.
I crumpled the shapes in various directions in order to get the creases which look like cracked glass.

I re-used Coca Cola bottle caps, flattened with a hammer (it was rather noisy but worth the effort) as embellishments.
I punched circles out of the same collage background paper I made, covered them with Diamond Glaze to give them a shiny glazing and adhered them to the bottle caps.

I glued them to the tags using a 3D foam tape for extra dimension.
I chopped the tags' corners with TH scissors, punched holes with the Crop-A-Dile and added colorful fibers from my stash.

I added thin kraft recycled chipboard at the back of each tag to make it sturdier.

On each tag's back side I added a stamped TH sentence, and then added my personal details for the swap.
And here are all my eight tags:

Altered Book - ספר מטופל

(for a short English version please scroll down)

Here's a page I created in Maya's altered book called "Animals and Wonders".
In this scene the giraffe is naturally getting to the top leaves of the tree, and the question asked here (which is often presented to tall people) is: What's the weather like up there?
I used the new acrylic stamps in Hebrew, designed by Limor from "Practical Magic"and Mai-Chu.
These stamps are highly recommended, as they're very useful and easy to use.
I'm sure I'm going to use them again.
Some recycling: I stamped the text on a recycled tea box, and I used Martha Stewart's Rose Leaf punch on recycled green add papers.
I hope Maya likes the page I created in her book, as I'm planning on working on another one...

A Wonderful Way To Start The New Year

My mini Christmas card was chosen by Michael Strong as one of the winning cards in December's challenge.
(You can enlarge the photo by clicking on it)

Here's' what Mike wrote about my card:
Dorly Weitzen – Israel Here is another WOW card from Dorly! She has shown us that a simple idea can yield breath taking results. She has used dozens of tiny punched branches to form a spectacular little tree. I love how the card opens to reveal yet another surprise inside, a bright red Christmas tree – so unexpected and so Dorly! Well Done!
Mike, Thank you for your compliments.
What a wonderful way to start the new year!
You can read about this card here
I'll be participating a blog hop soon and there's a little candy on the way, so follow me and stay tuned...

Card of the day #5 - We Need a Little Christmas

I'm Card Captain at Michael Strong's Yahoo group this week.I'll upload a new card every day, and my 5th card for this week is a mini Christmas card - 3" high by 2 1/2" wide.

I tried to recycle here.
The card's basis was cut from an ad (very heavy CS, useful for small cards).
The tree's branches were all punched out of photo paper scraps, because it's the whitest paper and it resembles snow.

The card's front:
Black canvas textured CS
A 3D tree made of dozens of white branches, punched using Martha Stewart's branch punch, piled one on top of each other and glued together to create a snow covered tree
Basic Grey patterned paper - Jovial, just a thin scrap under the tree.
Clear, green and red blings

The card's inner side:
Basic Grey patterned paper - Jovial
Michael Strong's Cloisonné Christmas Tree stamp (small), stamped on red leather textured CS and heat embossed with black EP, cut with nail scissors and decorated using a white gel pen to resemble snow.

(You can enlarge each photo by clicking on it)
I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

Recycling - Papier Mache Bowl With Leaves

This is a bowl I made some time ago, thanks to my wonderful Papier Mache tutor Nili.
I used an old fan's cover for the base of this bowl.
I covered it with Papier Mache from both sides.
Then I covered it with small pieces of recycled paper, with natural dried leaves for decoration.
Finally, I covered it with varnish for protection.
Although It is rather large (its diameter is 44 cms) it is relatively light.
This Papier Mache bowl is all about recycling, and it's very useful.
Thanks for stopping by, I hope you enjoyed. Have a creative day! Dorly
